Experimental Documentaries Part 2

The Box, dir. Tomaž Pavković (Slovenia, 2023, 20’)

The Box. The sixties and the seventies of the 20th century in our former country, a country that ceased to be. A young family moves from a rural environment to a small Slovenian town, where factories are being built and the need for a workforce is increasing. The brothers are growing up in that shaky but magical in-between, soaked in the everyday rhythms of the community, infused with the ideology of the time. Then it happens: the sudden spectrum of film; the mystique of time itself.

2940 N Campbell, dir. Jacob Kessler (USA, 2022, 4’)

2940 N Campbell. A Satanic holiday is celebrated at a queer DIY space in Chicago. As police raid and permanently shut down the venue, excess pleasures persist to the musicality of a malfunctioning police radio. In the onslaught of lights and noises, audience members find a curious indifference to their source.

MeetingPlace, dir. Antun Balog (Croatia, 2022, 17’)

Meeting Place is a film that talks about changing our view of memories over time. The author explores the reasons for this change through conversations with family members, photos, and videos. Facing his memories from the past, the author prepares for upcoming events that he believes will change the course of his life. Through the creation of the film, the author discovers the importance of archiving memories through images and videos so that their change over time is as small as possible.

Half Life, dir. Laura Iancu (Romania, 2023, 4’)

Half Life. Different worlds at different time scales.

Homesick Lungs, dir. Felix Klee (Germany, 2021, 15’)

You can’t bring back a dead horse, but there are ways to step into a place that was lost.
“Homesick Lungs” is an experimental farewell. The film delves into the lungs of Sheila, the dying horse, and the history of a sold family farm. 3D animations, screen recordings and documentary footage combine to form an essay on reconstructed memory. In the end, the wind brushes through virtual nettles.
