20h 40 years of Alternative Film/Video Festival Belgrade
Four decades have passed since the first edition of the Alternative Film Festival, today the oldest festival in the region, and one of the oldest in Europe, dedicated to film experiment.
The name it has today – Alternative Film/Video Festival – was given in the mid-1980s, when video technology came into mass use. Until 1990, the festival gathered authors from the Yugoslav area, both independent and authors who realized their works in cinema clubs, film critics, theorists and film lovers. During the 1990s, there were no conditions for its holding, so in 2003 the festival continued life in a new guise, as an international-type festival with an emphasis on production in the region.
The concept of the festival from the very beginning was not to award prizes, but to have a List of significant achievements of the festival with a maximum of ten films, selected by an expert jury. In 1982, the jury of the first edition consisting of Vlada Petrić (professor at Harvard, theorist), Sava Trifković (director), Božidar Zečević (theoretician) and Joca Jovanović (director) included ten films in the List of Significant Achievements, which you can watch as an introduction to this year’s edition of the festival:
